Type of Information Collected
In the course of our business, and in particular as part of our mobile content sales operations, we collect three key types of information:
- required information
- requested information, and
- automatically collected information.
Required information
Required information is the detail that we are required to collect. This could be to help us ensure that the service or product you purchase is compatible with your handset. This information is collected through the purchasing process. The core information required includes:
- Handset manufacturer, and
- Handset model.
- Your Mobile Telephone Number.
Requested Information
Requested information is the detail that we explicitly ask an individual to provide. This information is typically collected through the registration process, on-line surveys and pop up website questions. The information requested includes:
- personal identifiers like name and email address, and
- personal preferences and views about general topics and the m.Net brand and content.
The information collected forms part of our in-house research agenda, which is focused on understanding the customer, so that we can meet your needs and enhance your mobile experience. At the aggregate level, this information is used to:
- Improve our existing content
- Introduce new and exciting content
- Gather broad socio-demographic information about our customers
- Update and improve the website, and
- Identify and address any problems on the websites or communication networks.
The individual level information or personal identifiers is used to:
- To notify you if are a winner to any competition
- Send through relevant promotional material, and
- Invite you to participate in research.
Automatically Collected Information
Automatically collected information is the detail that is automatically recorded by our systems, when you visit our WAPsite or the WAP site of an m.Net client and purchase content from m.Net. This information includes:
- Your Mobile Phone Number (MSISDN)
- Your carrier
- Your handset model, and
- Purchase details, including content type, date of purchase and time of purchase.
This information is primarily used to track general purchase patterns and user behaviours.
Automatically collected information also includes cookies. Cookies are commonly used on commercial websites. A cookie is a piece of data that is stored on your hard drive, which contains information about your past purchases and preference settings. They do not contain any personal identifiers. We use this information to track the use of our website which assists us in its design and formulating its content.
Information format
Requested, required or automatically collected information output could take the form of:
- User database, which could include personal identifiers
- Raw data from online research projects, which could include personal identifiers
- Complete results from research, which would not include personal identifiers
- Partial results from research, which may relate specifically to the third party content providers or sponsors. This information would not include personal identifiers
- Complete product and service usage patterns, which would not include personal identifiers, and
- Product specific usage patterns which would not include personal identifiers.

Distribution of the information
m.Net will not sell your personal information to other companies. The only circumstances in which external organisations may be given access to your personal information are when our contractors and service providers are helping us operate our business or provide you with the most exciting and up to date services and products. To do this, from time to time we collaborate with:
- Independent content originators and providers
- Corporate Sponsors that provide ongoing support to m.Net
- Benefit Scheme Partners that provide continual rewards and competition prizes, and
- One-off Sponsors that provide rewards for a specific promotion.
We require these organisations to agree to our Privacy Policy and to strict conditions governing how this information may be used.
m.Net will only transfer personal data overseas in circumstances where information has appropriate protection.
No to Spamming
Spamming refers to the distribution of unsolicited emails and/or short messages (SMS). We comply with our legal obligations by obtaining your express consent before you receive communications from us about products and services (’opting-in’), Even if you have opted-in, we will never intentionally send you information about our services that we feel would not be appropriate to you, AND, because every time we send you an SMS it costs us money, the last thing we want to do is send out a large number of SMS messages that will annoy you and waste money.
You can opt-out of receiving communications from us by using the ‘unsubscribe’ facility included in the message and we will ensure that your request is honoured within 5 business days of the receipt of the request.
Administration of our Websites
m.Net will take reasonable steps to protect personal information it collects and ensure it is accurate and up-to-date. Your information is held on secure servers or in storage located in controlled environments. m.Net employees are required to maintain the confidentiality of any personal information held by m.Net.
There is always some risk associated with the transfer of data across any medium, including the internet. m.Net takes every reasonable precaution to protect your security, through the use of encryption technology where we collect personal identifiers. We cannot however, be held responsible for any authorised or improper use of your personal information.
Links to Third Party Websites
Our websites may contain links to other independent websites. This policy, however, relates only to the use and disclosure of information collected by m.Net. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any other sites. We therefore encourage you to inquire about and review the separate privacy statements of any third party websites.
Changes to Privacy Policy
As part of our ongoing commitment to protecting your privacy, we will constantly review this policy to ensure that it remains relevant to our current activities.
